The Easiest Flax Cracker Recipe
These delicious flaxseed crackers are simple to make with only a few ingredients! Dress them up with your favorite seasonings and enjoy them for a nutrient dense crunch.
Store bought crackers typically have a laundry list of ingredients. And if they don't, the price tag is unheard of. So, let me introduce you to the easiest cracker recipe you'll ever find. I literally have not bought crackers since I started making these!
This recipe contains flaxseeds and water as a base. That's it. Then add spices and herbs to your desired flavor, and bake until crisped. They are simply amazing.
Flax seeds are tiny nutrition powerhouses. The most prominent benefit is their omega- 3 fatty acid content. Omega-3's are the anti-inflammatory kind of healthy fats that many individuals do not get enough of in their diet. This is why fish oil supplementation is such a mainstream recommendation. But, leave it to these flax crackers to help you out!
Flax also provide a great amount of fiber (3g/1tbsp) and protein (2g/1tbsp).
I provided 2 of my favorite flavor combos below. One savory, one sweet. But I give you permission to play around with the herbs and spices in your cabinet! Dream up your favorite flavors, and I assure you it will be amazing woven into these crackers.

The Easiest Flax Cracker Recipe
Cook Time: 35-40 minutes | Total Time: 45 minutes
Makes approximately 45 crackers
1 cup ground flax meal*
2 tbsp whole flax seeds (can sub for chia seeds)
1/2 cup water
2-3 tsp dried herbs/ spiced of choice (see below for my favorite combos)
1/2 tsp Himalayan pink sea salt
1 tsp dried rosemary, finely chopped
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp vanilla extract
(optional) 2 tbsp dry sweetener of choice (raw baking stevia, coconut sugar)
Preheat oven to 350ºF.
In a small bowl, add ground flax meal, whole flax seeds and dried seasonings of choice.
Slowly add water to the bowl and mix until a ball of dough has formed.
Let sit for 5 minutes while you prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place ball of dough on prepared baking sheet, and using a rubber spatula, back of a large spoon or your fingers, spread dough into a thin layer of dough (I found it easy to use a rubber spatula to smear the dough cross the sheet). Try your best to make the thickness of dough the same throughout, paying attention to the center where it tends to be thicker, as this will ensure they bake evenly!
With a large chefs knife or pizza cutter, slice thinned out dough into cracker sized squares (about 1x1 inch). This will make them easy to break once baked!
Bake in oven for 35minutes. Depending on the strength of your oven, you may need 5-10 more minutes.
Let cool then break apart into crackers! Store on the counter top in an air tight container for up to 1 week. Enjoy!
*you can make your own ground flax meal by putting whole flax seeds in a high speed food processor, blender or coffee grinder
